Guenter ZORN
ドイツ・ボンに生まれる。ケルン工科大学を卒業、写真工学専攻。
ポラロイド社に入社し、ヴィジュアルコミュニケーションとしての写真の重要性と影響力への感覚を磨く。ドイツ、オランダ、フランスで暮らした後、日本を第二の故郷として移り住む。神楽坂の人々の日常の暮らしを精巧に描き出すと共に、微笑ましい瞬間にも視線を注ぐ。
Born in Bonn, Germany.
Studied and graduated in Cologne with a BA in Media and Imaging Technology.
Through his professional career, starting Polaroid Corporation, he developed a deep sense for the importance and influence of photography in visual communication.
After living in Germany, The Netherlands and France, he settled down in Japan as his second home town.
Living among the people of Kagurazaka, he delicately observes and captures memorable, often humorous moments in the everyday life of ordinary people.

神楽坂 - 東京の小さな村
多くのドイツ人はその土地ならではの文化が色濃く根付いたコミュニティーを愛し、小都市や町、村に住むことを好む。しかしその一方で、見知らぬ外国の文化に触れたり、東京のように巨大で不規則に展開する大都会を歩くことも大好きだ。
1991年、私はドイツの小さな町、ボンから東京にやってきた。程なく私はこの巨大な都市では老いも若きも、全ての人が永遠に続くかのような万華鏡の一片を作りだしていることに気づかされた。それは、来日前の私が東京に対して抱いていたイメージとは大きく違うものだった。実際の東京はまさに1000にも及ぶかの村によって構成された大都会だった。
"私の村"、神楽坂は、新宿区の飯田橋駅周辺に位置する。神楽坂は古き良き日本の伝統文化とヨーロッパのセンスが絶妙な配分で融合され、ユニークなコミュニティーとして発展して来た。この小さな村はドイツのそれとは全く違う環境だが、私にとっては非常に住み心地のいい場所である。
私はこの神楽坂の人々、様々な場所や瞬間、祭りの賑わい、静かな裏通り、魅力的でちょっと古風な趣きに魅了されてきた。神楽坂は私にとって巨大で、エネルギーに溢れ、めまぐるしく変化する東京のもう一つの顔として、その隣り合わせに確かに存在するものとして映っていた。この対照的とも言える共存のイメージこそ、未来のアーバンライフのモデルになるのではないかと私は睨んでいる。
Kagurazaka - A small village in Tokyo
Most Germans live in small cities, towns and villages with an often close-knit, local and quite orderly society. And yet, they like to explore foreign cultures and places like Japan, especially the giant and sprawling city of Tokyo.
Arriving in 1991 from the small town of Bonn, I quickly discovered that his great city offers endless facets of a kaleidoscope, something for everybody, young or old.
Most surprising and very different from the images I had about Tokyo, I found, in reality, it is a Metropolis of 1000 villages.
"My village", the Kagurazaka district, is located around Shinjuku's Iidabashi station. With its mixture of Japanese culture and tradition and its almost European flair, Kagurazaka has developed a unique social fabric, which is not unlike a small village in Germany and comfortable for me to live in.
I capture its people and places, humorous moments, the joy of festivals, the quiet backstreets, the charming patina and the little quaint oddities. In my eyes, Kagurazaka is a juxtaposition to the other Tokyo, the great mega city, dynamic and often hectic. Together these contrasting images can be a model for urban live in the future.
